Tampa Bay YMCA organizations are climbing aboard the healthy vending machine trend with the addition of HUMAN (Helping Unite Mankind and Nutrition) vending machines to their locations. The machines offer only health snacks and beverages, and are now located in over 40 states.
The YMCA says the machines promote a “5,2,1 and almost none” philosophy. The philosophy calls for 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily, 2 hours or less of television, 1 hour of exercise, and almost no beverages that contain high amounts of sugar.
The machines have replaced ones containing sugary sports drinks and other less healthy snacks.
Spurred by the growth and popularity of organic food, healthy vending machine franchises are seeing rapid growth in spite of a struggling economy. Not only are they the fastest growing segment of the well establish vending business, they are showing growth compared to all franchise opportunities.
HUMAN vending was started in 2008, and along with locations in 40 states, they have machines in Canada and Puerto Rico. According to their website, the company donates 10% of its profits to groups and causes that fight obesity. Their website is located at healthyvending.com.
